A powerful and exhilarating experience that promotes natural healing and wellness.
Cryotherapy involves the use of temperatures between -200 and -250 degrees F to stimulate natural healing and recovery throughout the entire body. The short duration of 3 minutes coupled with a perception of it feeling not as cold as it actually is makes the process a cakewalk compared to an ice bath.
During a cryotherapy session, your body’s skin receptors are stimulated by the cold air. These receptors simultaneously send sensory information to the hypothalamus of the brain. This reaction triggers a massive restriction in blood flow to the extremities as a natural response to protect the vital organs from the perceived threat of the environment.
While this blood is being stored in high concentrations within the body’s core, new nutrients, enzymes, and oxygen are added in dense multiples. Once you exit the chamber, your skin receptors immediately find the environment to no longer be threatening. They share this information with the brain causing the re-dilation of blood vessels.
This highly nutritious blood then flows throughout the body to assist with cellular repair, healing, and recovery!
Ensure that your skin is dry and that you are adequately hydrated prior to the session. This means avoiding the application of lotion for 4 hours leading up to the appointment. 16 to 24 oz of water within an appointment is also highly encouraged.
Cryotherapy is not painful. However, while it is remarkably cold, it is quite tolerable. This is because the cold dry air only penetrates 1mm into the skin, leaving your core temperature unchanged. The experience feels similar to walking in the refrigerated section at the grocery store.
Once you exit the chamber, over the next 30 minutes, you will begin to feel your entire body start to relax. You will feel blood flow back into your extremities and inflammation will be alleviated, resulting in an increased range of motion and decreased pain. While most report these benefits immediately following a session, repeated sessions in close sequence may be necessary for the most apparent effects.
